
Norbert “Butch” Werneke, age 78, of rural Sweet Springs, MO, died Saturday, June 19, 2021, at Centerpoint Medical Center in Independence.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 23, at Campbell-Lewis Chapel in Sweet Springs. Burial will follow at Rose Valley Cemetery in rural Sweet Springs. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Born July 11, 1942, in Hardeman, he was the son of the late Harvey Werneke and Elsie Mae Zimmerman Werneke. Butch lived in rural Sweet Springs his entire life and was a 1960 graduate of Sweet Springs High School. He spent his entire life farming and enjoyed restoring antique tractors, tractor pulling, as well as other hobbies.
Survivors include his companion and fiancé, Sandra Allen of the home; one daughter, Susan Lichtenberg (Mike) of rural Sweet Springs; one son, Mike Werneke of Cameron; five grandchildren: Michael Werneke, Alex Jenkins, Nick Jenkins, Amber Akau and Brittany Steffen; nine great-grandchildren; Sandy’s three daughters: Carrie Cline of Florida, Candie Heather (Daniel) of Sedalia and Cassie Maberry (Brad) of Sweet Springs; as well as several nieces and other extended family.
In addition to his parents, Butch was preceded in death by his brother, Rob Werneke.
