The Boonville Police Department is aware of a Grandparent scam where the caller states their grandchild has been arrested and needs bond money. The numbers on the calls have been (877) 301-4535 and (914) 848-6093.

Authorities say these types of calls are always false.

“If someone is arrested, they would be able to call for themselves. Our advice is to simply hang up,” authorities say. “We also suggest that you tell someone you trust.”

Authorities also advise you to follow three simple rules:

1. Hang up;
2. Do not return unknown calls, texts or emails; and
3. Do not give money or personal information.
