With the resignation of Christy Varner due to her moving out of the district during a recent meeting, the Marshall School Board was one member short of its capacity.
So, during a special meeting on Tuesday, June 22, the board considered six candidates who submitted letters of interest by noon on Tuesday, June 15.
Board President Bryon Jacques ran down the list of those who sent in letters of interest.
Board Treasurer Eddie Harper made the first motion.
Harper’s nomination received a second.
After discussing it more, getting input from all board members- Jacques, Dr. Erin Meyer, Harry Carrell, vice president Matt Smith and Ellen Lance- Shepard was approved by a 6-0 vote.
Jacques urged those who were not selected to fill the vacant seat to not be discouraged.
Shepard is scheduled to be sworn in at the beginning of the regular board meeting at 6 p.m. on Thursday, June 24.
