Area authorities are alerting residents about a scam.

The Warrensburg Police Department says a Warrensburg resident found a job offer online seeking secret shoppers needed in the Warrensburg area. He then received a check for “expenses” in the amount of $2,460 from Chase Bank. He then was told to deposit it in the ATM and withdraw the cash to buy $500 gift cards.

Authorities say, “Luckily, his bank would not cash the check, and he realized it was a scam.”
