U.S. Representative Emanuel Cleaver II (D-MO) announced his request for $147,000 for a Well Field Protection Project in Slater was included in the initial appropriations bill to fund the Department of Interior.

This investment will help assure businesses and residents of northeast Saline County have an uninterrupted supply of potable water during periods of seasonal flooding. Over the years, the well field has been at risk of flooding, creating a safety hazard to those on the road as it narrows due to flood water. Congressman Cleaver submitted a funding request for the full amount awarded in April.

The bill will be considered by the House Committee on Appropriations at a markup scheduled for Thursday, July 1, 2021.

Congressman Cleaver said, “This funding would allow the City of Slater to take a crucial step in updating the existing access road to the City’s water supply wells while improving the overall commute for an estimated 400 people who travel through Slater on their way to work daily. When we invest in infrastructure, not only do we build better roads and structures, we provide communities with opportunities for economic growth.”

Congressman Cleaver added, “This project will have a positive impact in the City of Slater that will continue to benefit generations to come, which is why I will do everything in my power to see that the funding for the Well Field Protection Project remains in the final version of the bill.”
