Just like several other counties in west-central Missouri, Saline County was battered by Mother Nature with pounding rainfall that left damages in its wake.

During the meeting of the Saline County Commission on Thursday, July 8, Southern District Commissioner Monte Fenner said the county suffered massive damage to its roadways.

Northern District Commissioner Stephanie Gooden said the county has been working with FEMA and SEMA to get the county declared a disaster area.

Fenner also said the county had an insurance assessment on the damage the courthouse suffered.

Gooden said, “Our thoughts are definitely with those who have suffered devastation to their homes. We’re working our best and hardest to get this area declared a disaster area, so there is FEMA funding for individual and public assistance available.”

Fenner said they learned on Wednesday, July 7, that 14 counties have put in for disaster assistance due to the flooding.
