An area law-enforcement agency is alerting residents about a current phone scam.

The Pettis County Sheriff’s Department says there has been a report of a local number coming up on caller ID in which the caller identifies himself/herself as an officer.

The caller then asks you to press one or face further legal action.

Authorities advise you to hang up because this is a scam.

They say there is no need to report it, but be aware.
