U.S. Representative Emanuel Cleaver II (D-MO) visited Odessa, Higginsville and Lawson on Thursday, July 8, to share information regarding the Child Tax Credit payments that will begin on July 15.

The expanded Child Tax Credit was included in the American Rescue Plan, which was passed by Congress in March. The monthly payments will provide up to $300 per child every month through the end of the school year, helping families in Missouri buy essentials like groceries, school supplies and clothes pay for childcare for their children.

Congressman Cleaver said the American Rescue Plan has provided working class Missourians with vaccines, stimulus checks and now substantial tax relief.

According to a press release, monthly payments will automatically begin Thursday, July 15, with no further action required. Families who did not file a tax return for 2019 or 2020, and who did not use the IRS Non-filers tool last year to sign up for the Economic Impact Payments, should go online and use the IRS Child Tax Credit Non-filer Sign-up Tool.

Families will get their remaining expanded Child Tax Credit when they file their 2021 tax returns.
