A 26-year-old Waverly man who is facing multiple felony charges following an incident on June 9 is due in court on Wednesday, July 14.
According to a probable-cause statement, a Waverly Police officer responded to a physical disturbance in the area of Old Bridge Rd near Thomas Dr. During the investigation, it was determined that there was cause to arrest Brandon Shackelford.
While officers searched for Shackelford, he called the Higginsville Central Dispatching Center six times on the emergency line, was hostile toward dispatchers and took up valuable time on the emergency 9-1-1 line. The assistance of the Lafayette County Sheriff’s Office, Saline County Sheriff’s Office and Missouri State Highway Patrol were requested to locate Shackelford.
Shackelford was located driving a vehicle about an hour and a half later near the Waverly city limits. A traffic stop was attempted, and Shackelford initially failed to yield and a short vehicle pursuit ensued. He eventually stopped and was noncompliant with officers, failed to comply with verbal directives and became physically aggressive. A taser was deployed, and Shackelford was detained. After being detained, Shackelford proceeded to be physically violent with law-enforcement officers. Once Shackelford was taken into custody, he began kicking the back window of the patrol vehicle, trying to break the glass.
According to court documents, Shackelford is charged with felonies for domestic assault in the second degree; resisting or interfering with arrest for a felony; two counts for escape or attempted escape from custody while under arrest for a felony; three counts of misdemeanor assault in the fourth degree-special victims; and drug- and driving-related misdemeanors. He is currently being held without bond. A motion for bond reduction was filed on June 28.
Shackelford was arraigned and pleaded not guilty on June 11. A counsel-status hearing is scheduled for 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 14, at Lafayette County Circuit Court.
