
Patricia Ann Houston, 88, of Higginsville, died Sunday, July 11 at her home.
She was born April 17, 1933 in Alma, Missouri to Walter and Marguerite (Tomlin) Rist.
They moved to Higginsville when she was 4 years old. She graduated from Higginsville High School where she enjoyed musical endeavors. She played the clarinet in several ensembles that placed at state contests. She was a majorette, and she played the organ at the Lutheran church.
After graduation she worked for Aull and Aull in Lexington, and then worked several years at Lake City. She married John Robert Houston on September 4, 1953 in Versailles, Missouri. They moved to Wilmington, Delaware, where she worked at DuPont for 13 years. They returned to Higginsville in 1968. She kept the books for Aprill’s Oak Barn and Anson Implement until she retired.
Patricia was an active member of the Higginsville Church of Christ, where she taught Sunday school for many years. She was a member of the Higginsville Garden Club and past state president of the Land Improvement Contractors Auxiliary. Patricia loved sports. She spent countless hours supporting C-1 Husker athletics. She also loved watching the UCM Mules, the Chiefs, basketball, racing, just about anything except soccer and hockey.
She is preceded in death by a daughter, Janelle Szabo.
She is survived by her husband John Houston and her two sons, Jeffrey Houston and John Houston, Jr. all of Higginsville; one sister, Jerolie Pearson of Springfield; five grandsons, Joseph Houston, Jeremy Houston, Sean Houston, John Szabo, and Tim Szabo; and six great grandchildren.
Visitation will be held from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Thursday, July 15 at Kaiser ~Wiegers Funeral Home.
Funeral Services will be held at 13:30 a.m. Friday, July 16 at Higginsville Church of Christ.
