Lisa Hall, representing the Sweet Springs Fair Board, asked the Sweet Springs Board of Aldermen to approve funds from the Transient Guest Tax to help it publicize several events on its docket throughout the summer.

According to unofficial minutes from the meeting on Monday, July 12, Hall said on August 28, the Fair Board is scheduled to host kids’ games, a kids’ tractor pull, a cornhole tournament and end the night with the Clay Clear Band. On September 25, it is scheduled to host baby and toddler contests, a cornhole tournament and finish that night with a band that has local residents Russell Hayworth and Kevin Schelp. Also scheduled on October 9 is bingo at the community building. Hall also requested aldermen approve the closure of Turner or Marshall Street for the events on August 28.

Aldermen voted to approve $2,500 for advertising expenses for the Fair Board’s upcoming events; and also to close Turner Street on August 28.

In other news, aldermen approved the closure of Turner Street on Saturday, July 24, for a tractor show and parade.

In other business, the board approved the pool to be open 1 to 7 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays and 1 to 6 p.m. on Sundays; and a public hearing for the city’s proposed tax levy to be held at 5:45 p.m. on Monday, August 8.
