Marshall resident and Missouri Valley College graduate Tim O’Connell had a big week north of the border.

O’Connell won the bareback riding title at the Calgary Stampede in Alberta, Canada.

O’Connell secured the title with a 93.5 on Xplosive Skies in the four-man round on Sunday, July 18.

O’Connell won the first go-round of the prelims with a 91 aboard Arbitrator Joe, took first in the fourth go-round with a 91.5 on Black Feathers and tied for first in the third go-round with an 86 aboard Unfortunate Carma, according to the Calgary Stampede’s website.

Current Missouri Valley College student-athlete Jesse Pope also competed and won the fifth and sixth go-rounds with an 89.5 on Sunday Sinner and a 90 aboard Snap Chat, respectively. He finished tied for sixth in the semifinal round on Sunday, not quite making it to the final four championship round.
