A 26-year-old Kansas City, Kansas, woman is charged with a felony for allegedly stealing a vehicle.

According to a report from a Lafayette County Deputy, he was advised a vehicle had been reported stolen in Boone County and was possibly headed his way on I-70. About an hour later, dispatch advised the deputy a vehicle was stopped in the middle of westbound I-70 with a woman slumped over the steering wheel. Investigation led to the arrest of Maranda Lynn-Erives Able. Video surveillance from the Midway Truck Stop shows a woman left her vehicle running while she entered the truck stop, and then Able entered the driver’s-side door of the vehicle and drove off.

Able is charged with a felony for tampering with a motor vehicle in the first degree. Bond is set at $7,500 cash or surety.

Able pleaded not guilty during her arraignment hearing on Tuesday, July 27. A counsel-status hearing is scheduled to be held at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, August 4, at Lafayette County Circuit Court.
