With the start of the 2021-22 school year fast approaching, REMCO Demolition, LLC, of Kansas City, Kansas- the company demolishing the old buildings on the property formerly known as the Marshall Habilitation Center- is hard at work.

Some of the group homes have been taken down, and now demolition has started on some of the larger buildings.

Demolition has begun on the west end of the administration building. Part of the building behind the administration offices- where C&C Industries was located- also has been taken down.

During a recent meeting of the Marshall City Council, Ward 2 Councilman Kirk Arends explained the original plan needed to be altered.

The goal is for the company to raze all of the big buildings in the front- which includes Buildings J, K and L- prior to the beginning of the school year on Tuesday, August 24.

Marshall Public Schools’ Spainhower Primary School is located directly across the extension of Slater Street from where the demolition is taking place at this time.

There are other buildings- Jameson Apartments and Wilson Hall- included in the demolition project, which carries a total estimated cost of $1.7 million.
