The Slater City Council addressed recent cemetery changes during its meeting on Tuesday, August 3.
Mayor of Slater, Dr. Stephen Allegri, says burials are prohibited on Sundays but funeral services are allowed.
Ward 1 Councilman Jason Weiker requested a motion of correction on the first reading of an updated cemetery ordinance, read by City Attorney Adam Sommer.
“Human remains can be put in a concrete box, which is not a vault,” Weiker says. “We’re not requiring a vault right now. We’re requiring a vault for a cremate, not human remains.”
Weiker and Attorney Sommer discussed the correction regarding vaults of human remains and cremations.
The council motioned the approval of correction of the first reading. The second reading of the cemetery ordinance was also approved
