Administrators in an area school district have released their plan to hold classes this school year.
According to a letter from Brunswick R-2 Superintendent Cara Engelbrecht, high school principal Scott Singleton and elementary principal Heather Sims, the district’s goal moving forward is to continue to provide face-to-face, in-person instructional days as safely as possible. They say the benefit of direct instruction allows teachers to customize material to meet each child’s needs; monitor progress and comprehension; and promote critical thinking and decision making while accessing information with a deeper understanding.
They say the Brunswick R-2 School District will continue to provide for the social, emotional and mental health needs of students and staff. Counseling services, as well as other resources are available.
Administrators say, “It is our objective to provide this learning environment while incorporating additional safeguards to protect the safety of our students and staff. During the coming months, we would ask for your flexibility and understanding as we work to make this possible.”
According to the administration, the Safe Return to In-Person Instruction and Continuity of Services Plan has been created with feedback and guidance from district families, Brunswick R-2 staff, the Chariton County Health Department, the Center for Disease Control and the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.
As information regarding the ever-changing situation of COVID-19 becomes available, administrators alert district patrons to anticipate that they will adapt and update this plan. The information outlined throughout this document is specific to the Brunswick R-2 School District and its community. These recommendations are supported by the Chariton County Health Department.
Administrators say, “By promoting student opportunities to learn and be successful with proper encouragement and instruction in a safe, orderly environment, we are fostering a learning experience that will prepare our Wildcats for the future.”
