The circus is coming to Sweet Springs.

According to unofficial minutes from the board of aldermen meeting this week, Albert Hartman with the Sweet Springs Chamber of Commerce said the circus is coming for two shows- 5:30 and 7:30 p.m.- on Thursday, September 9. He also noted there will be a clown in town who will go around to schools and other places about seven to 10 days prior to the event. Hartman asked aldermen to approve funds from the Transient Guest Tax money for the chamber to advertise the event.

Aldermen approved $1,000 in Transient Guest Tax money for the chamber to be used for this purpose.

Also, aldermen approved the rezoning of Lots 3, 6 and 7 and the east 49 feet of Lots 5 and 8 of Block 2 of the Shaw Addition for commercial use. The vote was 2-1, with one board member abstaining.

In other news, aldermen approved the appointment of Susan Vogelsmeier to serve on the Cemetery Board; and approved a resolution regarding conflicts of interest. City Clerk Michelle Fuehring reported the city received a clean audit report with only one finding from Randall C. Fiene CPA. The only finding regarded delegation of duties because having limited funds does not allow the city to hire additional staff to prepare reports.
