Bothwell Regional Health Center recently received the 2021 APSE-MO Show-Me Disability Inclusion Award at the 2021 Missouri APSE conference in Columbia, Missouri.
The award recognized Bothwell as a business that demonstrates exemplary outreach, accommodation and hiring practices that include individuals with disabilities in the workforce. APSE-MO is the Missouri state chapter of the Association of People Supporting Employment First (APSE), a national organization committed to improving and expanding integrated employment opportunities, services and outcomes for people experiencing disabilities.
According to a press release, Bothwell was nominated by the Center for Human Services for actively recruiting candidates with documented disabilities for real jobs at real wages, integrating them in the hospital setting and providing direct support to help them succeed. Bothwell also works with public and private agencies that support people with disabilities and serves as an advocate for employing people with disabilities to the community and business owners.
Human Resource and Support Services executive director, Lisa Irwin say, “Bothwell has employed several individuals from CHS. CHS makes the hiring process easy and is helpful to both the new employee and the organization.”
Bothwell has served as a host site for the CHS Summer Work Experience the last two years. The program, in partnership with the Missouri Vocational Rehabilitation Summer Work Program, gives incoming high school seniors or recent graduates real world experience and training.
The SWE spans across multiple departments within the hospital and its clinics. This year, Bothwell offered a position to one of the students who proudly accepted the position. With the experience the student already has, the transition from the SWE to employment will be seamless.
