The Higginsville Board of Aldermen discussed the city’s proposed tax levy during its meeting on Monday, August 16.
According to a city official, nobody spoke during the mandatory public hearing, and aldermen approved the rate at $0.9686 per $100 of assessed valuation of real and personal property. The breakdown of the taxes is: 43.45 cents for the city’s general fund; 35.87 cents for the park fund; and 17.54 cents for the library fund.
A release from City Administrator Jeanette Dobson says this is an increase of five cents per $100 evaluation from the tax rate last year. The estimated collection on property tax is $458,852- or $215,299 for the general fund; $177,739 for the park fund; and $65,814 for the library fund.
The rate now has to be approved by the State Auditor’s Office.
