Mark A. Bergmann, 92, of Sedalia, died Monday, August 16, at his home, surrounded by his family.
He was born January 31, 1929 in Sedalia, a son of the late Phillip J. and Stella M. (Hink) Bergmann. On September 3, 1950 in Sedalia, he married the love of his life Erna Ruth Kasak, who preceded him in death on March 18, 1994.
Mr. Bergmann was raised and educated in Sedalia and was a 1947 graduate of Smith-Cotton High School. He served his country honorably in the U.S. Army during Korea. Mark worked as lineman at Southwestern Bell, and in 1965 he began his career as a Test Desk Technician until his retirement in 1985. He was baptized at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Sedalia and was confirmed in 1941. As a young man, he taught Sunday School and sang in the church choir. Mark was a lifelong member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. He understood the importance of striving to know God’s will, as well as the importance of living according to the Word of God. His faith led him to live for others, as evidenced by the way he took care of his family. He had a sure and certain hope that Jesus would raise him up on the Last Day. Our faithful Lord sustained him in his faith even up to his death.
Mark was a Babershopper and was a member of the State Fair Statesman Barbershop Chorus. He was quite the handyman and could fix anything. He enjoyed gardening and spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Surviving are a son, Tom Bergmann (Angie), of Weatherford, TX; a daughter, Susan Routon (Danny), of Sedalia; three grandchildren, Brandy Whitley, Randy Routon and Chelsea Younce (Nick); and four great-grandchildren, Lexus Lawson, Carter Routon, Tavaris Whitley and Lily Routon; and many good friends, including his trucker friend Joe Fleischman.
He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Phillip Jr. and Eugene; and two sisters, Philomene and Ruth.
