Missouri non-farm payroll employment increased from June 2021 to July 2021, and the seasonally-adjusted unemployment rate decreased by a tenth of a percentage point.

According to the July 2021 Jobs Report, seasonally-adjusted employment increased by 15,000 jobs over the month, with job gains in both goods-producing and service-providing industries. The state’s seasonally-adjusted unemployment rate was 4.2 percent in July 2021, down from 4.3 percent in June 2021.

Recovery from COVID-19-related layoffs continued with an increase of more than 83,900 jobs from July 2020 to July 2021.

Short-term shortages of semiconductor chips may hold down employment in manufacturing in the next few months, and the emergence of the Delta variant of COVID-19 may impact longer-term growth.
