Another COVID-19-related death was reported in an area county on Thursday, August 19.

According to the Lafayette County Health Department, the death raises the county’s total to 64 since the beginning of the pandemic.

The number of hospitalizations increased from 11 on Wednesday, August 18, to 12 on Thursday.

There have been 3,179 total positive cases, including 136 active cases- up by four since Wednesday- in the county. The breakdown of active cases per town is: Lexington- 31; Odessa- 24; Concordia- 12; Higginsville- 10; six in each Bates City and Wellington; four in Mayview; three in Waverly; and one in each Alma and Napoleon. The age-group breakdown is: 20 to 39- 53; 60 and over- 33; 40 to 59- 30; 0 to 11- 13; and 12 to 19- seven.

The county’s positivity rate is 21.16 percent per the CDC COVID Data Tracker.

As of Thursday, the county’s fully vaccinated rate is 35.7 percent, and 41.7 percent of county residents have received at least one dose.

If you haven’t been vaccinated and would like to be, you can visit the health department office for walk-in service from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Tuesdays.
