One of two area residents arrested after an incident on July 30 has a court proceeding set for Monday, August 23.

According to a Saline County Sheriff’s report, a deputy responded to a residence in Gilliam in regards to a physical disturbance in progress. Upon arrival, the deputy could hear a female crying and yelling for a subject to get off her and to stop hurting her.

The Deputy forced entry into the residence and took a male subject into custody. Investigation revealed a domestic assault had occurred.

Multiple types of narcotics and drug paraphernalia allegedly were located in the room with the two subjects. The female subject was placed under arrest for an active warrant and possession of a controlled substance. The male subject was placed under arrest for domestic assault and possession of a controlled substance.

According to court documents, Shyla Lynn Lawrence, of Marshall, is charged with a felony for possession of a controlled substance. Bond is set at $5,000 cash only.

Lawrence pleaded not guilty on August 9. Her plea/trial-setting hearing is scheduled for 9 a.m. at Saline County Circuit Court.

The male subject has not been formally charged at this time.
