With Odessa students heading back to school on Wednesday, August 25, drivers will need to get back in the habit of slowing down in school zones.

According to the Odessa Police Department, 12 additional school speed limit signs have been placed in the enforcement zones:
— College Street – from 2nd to 5th;
— 3rd Street – from Golf to Route OO;
— 4th Street – from Golf to College;
— 5th Street – from Golf to College;
— Phillips Street – from 2nd to 3rd; and
— Crestview Street – from 2nd St Terrace to 3rd.

Authorities say, “It may seem like a crawl when driving just 15 miles per hour in a school zone, but it only takes a second for a child to run out in front of a vehicle. If you are speeding, you might not have enough time to react.”
