Lafayette County Prosecuting Attorney Kristen Hilbrenner has announced that 33-year-old Justin Marks, of Lexington, was found guilty on Wednesday, August 18, of felonies for domestic assault in the second degree and domestic assault in the third degree.

The Lafayette County jury- which deliberated for less than an hour- found Marks guilty on all counts for events that took place on or between May 1 and May 2, 2019, in Lexington. In this case, the victim attempted to end her relationship with the defendant and leave their shared residence. The defendant refused to allow the victim to leave and resorted to violence. The defendant choked the victim until she lost consciousness and bit her during a scuffle to take the victim’s car keys away so that she could not leave.

Sentencing is scheduled for October 4, 2021, before Presiding Judge Dennis Rolf. Marks faces up to 10 years for domestic assault in the second degree and up to seven years for domestic assault in the third degree as a prior and persistent felony offender.
