
A Gilliam man has been charged with felonies after he allegedly led a law-enforcement officer on a high-speed pursuit on Saline County roadways on August 12.
According to a Saline County Sheriff’s report, a deputy attempted to stop a vehicle. However, the driver did not stop. Steven Kohlenberg is alleged to have driven away from the attempted traffic stop and traveled at 70 miles per hour on Ben Garth Lane- a gravel road. The pursuit continued, with the SUV traveling between 70 and 75 miles per hour at one point. Kohlenberg’s vehicle eventually left the roadway traveled about 60 yards into a corn field. Kohlenberg fled the scene and was unable to be located.
According to court documents, a warrant has been issued and Kohlenberg is charged with felonies for resisting arrest, detention or stop by fleeing and operating a vehicle without a valid license; and a misdemeanor for crop damage. Bond is set at $10,000 cash only.
Kohlenberg’s initial hearing is pending at Saline County Circuit Court.
