
For the first time in a while, the active COVID-19 case count has fallen below triple digits in Lafayette County.
According to the Lafayette County Health Department, the active case count was down from 100 on Wednesday, September 1, to 90 on Thursday, September 2.
The county’s death toll due to the virus remained at 65 since the beginning of the pandemic. The number of persons hospitalized due to the virus also dipped from 16 to 12.
The health department has confirmed a total of 3,317 positive cases of COVID-19 since the start of the pandemic.
As of August 31, the county’s positivity rate was 10.67 percent, down from 14.37 percent on August 25, according to the CDC COVID Data Tracker.
Per the CDC, 43 percent of Lafayette County residents have initiated their first dose of their vaccine series; and 37.5 percent of county residents have been fully vaccinated, meaning they are two weeks post their second shot of either Pfizer or Moderna or two weeks post their Johnson & Johnson shot.
