The Saline County Commission held its annual tax-rate hearing during its meeting on Thursday, September 2.

Nobody had any comments during the public hearing, so commissioners approved the tax rates for 2021 as: 15.54 cents for the general fund; 33.29 cents for Special Road & Bridge; 22.85 cents for Common Road; 33.29 cents for Common Road Temp; 5.16 cents for Senate Bill 40; and 40 cents for Countywide Tax on Subclass 3 Property to M&M Surtax. All tax rates are per $100 of assessed valuation of real and personal property. Northern District Commissioner Stephanie Gooden pointed out the ceiling for the general tax rate was 16.5 cents.

Auditor Karlin Breshears explained some rates come from the state auditor’s office.

In other news, Collector Cindi Sims reported 15 of the 44 properties available during the county’s tax sale toward the end of August actually sold. Four of the sales produced surplus funds of $11,339.61.

Also, commissioners opened numerous bids received for six automobiles that were put on the auction block by the sheriff’s department. The bids were taken under advisement. A decision will be made on the winning bids at a later date.
