A devout Christian, Dorothy “Marcile” Tieman always loved to sing. A sparkling soprano, Marcile’s voice could always be heard singing hymns at church on Sunday mornings.
Even when dementia affected her memory in the final years of her life, songs and hymns remained firmly planted in her mind—often smiling in recognition or humming along with the melody. And now, her beautiful voice has joined the choir of angels in heaven.
Tieman, age 87, of Alma, Mo., died Thursday, September 2, 2021, at Good Shepherd Care Community in Concordia.

Marcile was born August 26, 1934, in Alma, Mo. She was the youngest of five children born to the late Herman G. Kramer and Emilie Fehner Kramer. She was baptized on September 9, 1934, and confirmed on March 31, 1948, both at Trinity Lutheran Church in Alma.
A graduate of Alma High School, Marcile went on to nursing school and later served as a nurse at Wetzel Hospital in Carrollton, Mo.
On July 3, 1954, she married Leroy Vernon Tieman at Trinity Lutheran Church in Alma.
Marcile and Leroy raised their five sons on the family farm in Blackburn where Leroy was born. Marcile was a constant cheerleader for her sons—whether on the ballfield or in the classroom.
In addition to her role as a wife and mother, Marcile worked as a secretary for Walter Bargfrede Construction. She later spent many years at State Bank of Missouri, first at the Alma branch and later in Concordia.
Throughout her life, Marcile was an active member of Zion Lutheran Church in Blackburn, where she helped start the Priscilla Guild. She also served as president of the Concordia Zone of the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League and helped start the booster club at St. Paul’s Lutheran High School.
Marcile was an avid reader, traveler, and history lover. She was especially fond of playing card games. But her greatest pride and joy was her family. She delighted in spending time with her grandkids and thoroughly enjoyed when they came to stay with her.
Marcile was a resident of Good Shepherd Care Community in Concordia since September 2014.
She is survived by five sons: Douglas Dean and Frances (Hertel) Tieman of Sinking Springs, Pa., Gregory Lee and Marjorie (Kiehl) Tieman of Blackburn, Mo., Rev. Dr. Larry Wayne and Sharon (Marcis) Tieman of Crystal Lake, Ill., Rev. Dr. Terry Dwayne and Rebecca (Brandt) Tieman of Cordova, Tenn., and Leroy Christopher and Erin (Coffey) Tieman of Kansas City, Mo.; 17 grandchildren: Laura (Garth) Click, Erin (Jeremy) McKeage, Jenna (Jeremy) Fitzwater, Paula (Zach) Brown, Teresa (Patrick) Detweiler, Mark Tieman, Elizabeth Tieman, Emilie (Zachary) Ebnet, Nicholas (Ashley) Tieman, Timothy (Elizabeth) Tieman, Benjamin (Emma) Tieman, Philip Tieman, Andrew Tieman, Jonathan Tieman, Joseph Tieman, Kristen Tieman, and Michael Tieman; and 13 great-grandchildren.
