
The active case count of COVID-19 increased over the Labor Day holiday weekend in Lafayette County.
According to the Lafayette County Health Department, the active case count increased from 88 on Friday, September 3, to 95 on Tuesday, September 7.
The number of persons hospitalized due to the virus also increased from 14 to 15.
The county’s death toll due to the virus remained at 65 since the beginning of the pandemic.
The health department has confirmed 25 more positive cases for a total of 3,354 cases of COVID-19 since the start of the pandemic.
As of September 6, the county’s positivity rate was 9.4 percent, down from 10.81 percent on August 31, according to the CDC COVID Data Tracker.
Per the CDC, as of last week, 43 percent of people in Lafayette County had initiated their first dose of their vaccine series; and 37.5 percent of people in Lafayette County were fully vaccinated, meaning they are two weeks post their second shot of either Pfizer or Moderna or two weeks post their J&J shot.
As a reminder, the health department is administering the Pfizer vaccine (available for 12+) Mondays and Wednesdays at its clinic. The clinic is scheduled to be held from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
