Another COVID-19-related death was reported in Lafayette County on Wednesday, September 8.

According to the Lafayette County Health Department, the death raises the total to 66 since the beginning of the pandemic.

The active case count increased by one from Tuesday, September 7, to 96. And the number of hospitalizations remained at 15.

The health department has confirmed two more positive cases for a total of 3,356 cases of COVID-19 since the start of the pandemic.

As of September 6, the county’s positivity rate was 9.4 percent, down from 10.81 percent on August 31, according to the CDC COVID Data Tracker.

Per the CDC, as of last week, 43 percent of people in Lafayette County had initiated their first dose of their vaccine series; and 37.5 percent of people in Lafayette County were fully vaccinated, meaning they are two weeks post their second shot of either Pfizer or Moderna or two weeks post their J&J shot.

As a reminder, the health department is administering the Pfizer vaccine (available for persons at least 12 years of age) Mondays and Wednesdays at its clinic. The clinic is scheduled to be held from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
