Law enforcement agencies responded to Smith Cotton Junior High School on Thursday, September 16, on a reported suspicious and potentially armed person on the south lot of the school.

According to a press release, Sedalia Police, Pettis County Sheriff’s Department deputies and Sedalia 200 School Security Officers quickly secured the scene and conducted an investigation. The subject was taken into custody and authorities determined a firearm was not utilized during the incident.

Officials say law enforcement officers assisted Sedalia 200 personnel in clearing the school as a precaution measure and the scene was released.

The suspect will be held at Pettis County Jail, where charges of trespassing and terroristic threats are pending at Pettis County Circuit Court.

Per KMMO policy, the name of the suspect will not be released until formal charges are filed.
