This year will be Waverly’s first “Shop with a Cop” event that will involve taking less-fortunate children in the Santa Fe School District area to Higginsville Walmart and shop with them for Christmas presents.
The Waverly Police Department says the shopping is scheduled to take place around 6:30 p.m. on December 10.
At 6:30 p.m. on December 18, a banquet is scheduled to be held at the Waverly Community Building, and the selected children and their families will be invited for dinner and presented their gifts.
Police officials say, “The goal for this program is to provide each child in the Santa Fe School District with presents to put under the tree and have the Christmas they deserve.”
The goal for 2021 is to provide for 25 kids which will be $2,500 in donations. Any additional money received will go toward catering the banquet and adding more children to the program.
Help with gift wrapping and setting up for the banquet will be needed. Gift wrap or Christmas decorations also can be donated to the department to be used for the banquet.
Donations can be made in person at Waverly City Hall at 111 East Kelling Avenue or by mail. Make checks payable to the City of Waverly. Mailing information is:
