The Marshall City Council will be seeking a new member.
Harold Simmons resigned as Ward 4 Councilman after the last council meeting on September 20. Simmons said he resigned for personal reasons. Simmons was elected by voters in April to replace Tom Hagedorn who had filled that seat for 12 years and did not file to run for another term.
Mayor Julie Schwetz says Simmons’ replacement will be by appointment. She said the plan is for her to recommend a person to replace Simmons, and the council will then have to approve the recommendation. She says she hopes to have the council position filled by the end of October.
Whomever is approved to fill the position will need to file to run again in April’s Municipal Election for the rest of the two-year term of the seat.
