Formal charges have been filed against a Marshall Man who was arrested in Waverly last month.

According to information provided by the Waverly Police Department, at about 1:03 p.m. on August 11, the Saline County Sheriff’s Department contacted the Waverly Police Department in reference to a theft that occurred in Saline County. A resident reported several pieces of mail- including a rent check for the month- were stolen from their mailbox on June 15 in Saline County. Additional information from the victim included the stolen check was then cashed at Community Bank of Waverly on the same day by an unknown subject. Due to the check being cashed in Waverly’s jurisdiction, an investigation began by its police department.

It was found that 40-year-old Justin Walker used the identity of another to cash the stolen check at the bank. Walker reportedly arrived at the bank wearing a disguise, forged a signature on the back of the check, and received $200 from the bank after cashing the stolen check.

The Lafayette County Prosecutor’s Office filed a felony charge of forgery and a misdemeanor for stealing. Bond is set at $15,000 cash or surety.

Walker currently is being housed in the Saline County Jail for separate offenses unrelated to this incident. His initial hearing is pending at Lafayette County Circuit Court.
