Salisbury scored the first six and also the final 16 points of the contest, but their heroics weren’t enough as they lost at home to Father Tolton 28-22 in Game of the Week action heard Friday night on KMMO-FM.

Sandwiched in between those Panther trips to the end zone were four Blazer touchdowns occurring in a span of four possessions midway through the contest.

Salisbury dented the scoreboard first when they capped an 80 yard drive by reaching the end zone on Grant Biere’s (Beers) 29-yard TD pass to Gabe Haines midway through the opening period.

Trailing 6-0 at the halfway point of the second quarter, Father Tolton scored twice yet before the break on TD passes by Jonah Lybeck-Brown of eight yards to Julian McKoy and then 10 yards to James Lee making it 14-6 at intermission.

When play resumed after the break, James Lee raced home on a 43-yard scoring romp before Braden Willmuth went in from three yards out, giving the Blazers a 28-6 advantage early in the second half.

But not about to give up the fight, Salisbury used Gabe Haines’ 83-yard kickoff return to set up Grant Biere’s (Beers) three-yard TD plunge, slicing the deficit to 28-14 with six minutes left in the third period.

Two possessions later, the Panthers got the ball back thanks to a blocked field goal and on the very next snap, Biere (Beer) connected with Daniel White on a 63-yard touchdown toss, wrapping up the scoring at 28-22 with eight minutes left in the contest.

A big difference in the game was the passing of Trailblazer quarterback Jonah Lybeck-Brown who went 17 of 27 through the air with two touchdowns and one interception, good for 231 yards. Meanwhile, Grant Biere (Beer) of Salisbury was only eight of 21 with three interceptions, firing two touchdown passes and gaining 185 yards.

The Blazers accumulated 442 yards of overall offense compared to the 290 amassed by the Panthers.

Now 1-4 on the year, Salisbury travels to Marceline next Friday as 4-1 Father Toton hosts Hogan Prep that same night.
