For allegedly grabbing a woman’s daughter in an inappropriate area of her body and slapping the woman in the face during an incident on September 22, a Marshall man is facing charges.

Once on the scene, Marshall Police officers- using a description given by the mother- identified the man and took him into custody. Authorities say the suspect kicked an officer in the knee, and during transport to the police department, the subject kicked the windshield and Mobile Data Terminal in the patrol car and attempted to bite the officer several times.

According to court documents, Alfred Gerome Laney is charged with a felony for sexual abuse in the second degree and misdemeanors for two counts of assault in the fourth degree and one count of escape or attempted escape from custody. Bond is set at $7,500 cash only.

Laney was arraigned on September 24. Laney’s lawyer filed a motion for bond reduction on October 1. A confined-docket hearing is scheduled to be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, October 6, at Saline County Circuit Court.
