
Charges have been filed against a second person after an officer checked on the well-being of the driver of a vehicle that was parked near a business that had been closed for more than an hour on October 11.
According to a Lexington Police Report, the investigation led to a search of the vehicle, and the officer says he located numerous drug-related items- including multiple baggies of a crystal substance suspected to be methamphetamine and capped needles. The officer also said he located some fake urine in a container in the center console and a firearm in the glove box of the vehicle. Curtis Benefield and a passenger in the vehicle- Angela Reed, of Lexington- were arrested.
According to court documents, Benefield is charged with felonies for trafficking drugs or attempt in the first degree and forgery, as well as a weapon-related misdemeanor. Reed is charged with a felony for trafficking drugs or attempt in the first degree and two drug-related misdemeanors. Bond for each subject is set at $75,000 cash or surety.
Benefield pleaded not guilty during his arraignment hearing on October 13. His next hearing is pending at Lafayette County Circuit Court. Reed pleaded not guilty on October 12. Her next hearing is pending at Lafayette County Circuit Court.
