A state representative urges area residents to be alert about some scams.

According to a news release, District 39 Representative Peggy McGaugh says she has been made aware of constituents being part of a chain of scams targeting vulnerable citizens in the district.

McGaugh says, “If you are ever unsure about a “too-good-to-be-true” opportunity, please reach out to my office, your local law-enforcement (agency) or the Consumer Protection Division of the Attorney General’s office.”

McGaugh says Consumer Advocates will get all the documentation to file a formal complaint. The hotline number is 1 (800) 392-8222.

McGaugh urges you to: “Talk to trusted family members if you find yourself trapped in a never-ending cycle of requests for money; and never give out your personal information on the phone or in an e-mail.”
