
Mary Elizabeth Rinne, age 63, of Higginsville, died on Tuesday, November 2, 2021, at her home.
She was born July 4, 1958 in Terre Haute, IN to John and Donna (Hengstenberg) Rogers. John died when she was very young.
Mary grew up in Columbia, MO and attended MU after high school, earning a BS in childhood development. She met Roger Rinne while they were in college. They were married on August 16, 1980. She graduated a year ahead of him and worked at a daycare. They lived in Columbia for a year while he finished school. Then they began a series of moves and started their family. They lived in Plains, KS for a year; then on to Marshall, MO for 4 years. They spent 5 years in Nashville, AR before settling in Higginsville in 1992. During the past 30 years Mary worked as a cook at the school, and had a daycare in their home.
She loved cooking for family, friends and for church dinners and events. She was an active member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and especially enjoyed the Wednesday night adult bible study class. Her favorite hobby was scrapbooking, where her attention to detail and artistry were on full display.
Mary is preceded in death by her birth father; Sam Marsh, Sr. (the man who raised her); and a nephew, Andrew Marsh.
She is survived by her husband, Roger; mother, Donna Marsh (Larry) of Columbia; son, Preston Rinne (Mary) of Kansas City, MO; daughter, Clara Salyer (Jordan) of Higginsville; two brothers, Sam Marsh, Jr. (Julie) of Columbia and John Marsh (Mary) of Olathe; three sisters, Julia Marsh of Columbia, Judith Davis (Matt) of Coeur d’Alene, ID, and Dorothy Williams of Columbia; and four grandchildren: Atticus, Joseph, Ellynore and Paxten.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, November 8, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Higginsville, where the recitation of the holy rosary will be at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday, November 7, at Kaiser ~Wiegers Funeral Home in Higginsville.
