A 44-year-old Sedalia man has been charged with domestic assault and endangering the welfare of a child after an incident on November 11.
According to a probable-case statement, officers responded to a residence for a report of a domestic assault. Upon arrival, an officer forced his way inside the home – to which the front door was stuck – where he detained Michael Barnett. Authorities say several things inside the home were damaged. The victim told officers she and Barnett lived together and had been ignoring each other all day. When she told Barnett he could not use her vehicle, he allegedly became angry and argued.
Furthermore, authorities say Barnett used an axe to break a table and china cabinet, there was broken glass scattered on the floor, the victim had sustained an injury to the head after getting hit in the head with a metal baseball bat. During the incident, an infant child was sitting in a car-seat when Barnett knocked the car seat over.
Court documents state Barnett is charged with domestic assault and endangering the welfare of a child. Bond was set at $25,000 cash or surety.
Barnett was arranged on November 15. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, December 16 at Pettis County Circuit Court.
