Marshall Public Schools’ Superintendent Dr. Carol Maher says the fire last week at Marshall High School was accidental.

A release from Dr. Maher says, “I want to repeat that the fire was accidental and due to an electrical issue that had probably been developing over many years. No one should or even could have suspected there was a problem brewing and there is certainly no one to blame. It was only a matter of time before a longstanding issue came to the forefront.”

Dr. Maher says she will be giving a detailed update on the fire and condition of the high school building this evening at the November Board meeting.

In an earlier release from Dr. Maher, she said the building may not be occupied until the initial cleaning of ductwork and surfaces is complete. The administration doesn’t know how long this will take, but classes cannot be held in the building until after the Christmas break, January 4, 2022 – at the earliest. During that time frame, remote learning will take place, so students will be expected to complete their assignments and course work on Google Classroom.
