In Less than three weeks, the shopping begins for the first “Shop with a Cop” program for the Waverly Police Department.

Police Chief Andrew Ide says the department is still about $500 short of its final goal for the 53 kids this year. Donations can still be made at Waverly City Hall up until Thursday, December 9.

In addition to the $500, the police department will gladly accept any Christmas decorations, lights, gift wrap and time that you may have to offer.

Ide says the shopping is scheduled to take place on Friday, December 10. Participating families will be invited to the banquet on Saturday, December 18, where Santa Claus and Mrs. Claus will present the gifts to the children.

Set up for the banquet will start Friday, December 17, and will take some time as well.

Ide says, “Any volunteers who have some extra time on their hands are welcome to assist in the setup and with the actual event. Food will be provided, and any help is very much appreciated.”

This program encompasses the entire Santa Fe School District, so help is not just limited to Waverly residents.

Ide says with the tremendous generosity from area communities the police department was able to surpass its initial goal of participants.
