Due to an external gas leak at Benton Elementary School in Marshall, students were transported to Spainhower Primary School – resulting in delayed student pick up, yesterday afternoon.
According to a release from Marshall Public Schools’ Superintendent Dr. Carol Maher, a gas leak was discovered on a roof unit, however, the source was quickly shut off and closed.
Dr. Maher says, “With the pleasant temperatures [on Friday, December 10], it will be comfortable while the unit is permanently repaired.”
Benton Elementary Principal Gynnah Gaudreau said, “The number one goal was to keep all of our students and staff safe, we proved that MPS is the best. [A] huge thank you to all of my staff for remaining calm and staying positive during the leak, SPS for hosting our students for a little bit this afternoon/helping with dismissal, and our amazing maintenance crew for their prompt attention to this matter.”
Dr. Maher added that the Benton students and school staff will be back in their original building Friday, December 10.
