The Sedalia Police Department has taken three juveniles into custody in reference to the homicide in the quiet neighborhood of South Kentucky Avenue on December 10.

According to a press release, throughout the course of the investigation, detectives from the Criminal Investigations Bureau and Crime Resolution Unit have been working diligently with the Pettis County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office and Pettis County Juvenile Office.

Authorities say Sedalia detectives uncovered three male juveniles – ranging from fifteen to sixteen years of age – entered the residence of 1815 South Kentucky Avenue in an attempt to burglarize the home.

During the incident one of the residents, Tylar Simon, was fatally shot. The other resident, Nolan Simon, was assaulted. Detectives learned that at least one of the juveniles was familiar with both the home and the residents.

After the shooting, all juveniles fled the scene. SPD’s detectives obtained a search warrant for the home and processed the crime scene for evidence.

Officials say over the weekend, detectives followed up on over 40 leads and spoke to witnesses.

After further investigations, search warrants were served in the 1900 block of South Missouri Avenue, the 1800 block of South Harrison Avenue and the 500 block of South Kentucky Avenue – where detectives located two suspects and took them into custody, where they were transferred to juvenile authorities.

During the early morning hours on Wednesday, December 15, SPD’s Crime Resolution Unit obtained information regarding the whereabouts of the third juvenile who fled to the Kansas City area.

CRU detectives coordinated with the Career Criminal Unit in Kansas City and the juvenile was taken into custody without incident.
