It took a few hours, but authorities were able to safely dispose of a military-grade explosive weapon on Wednesday, December 15.
According to Pettis County Sheriff Brad Anders, a resident discovered a believed-to-be live grenade that was in a relative’s home on Mimosa Drive.
Deputies responded and contacted Whiteman Air Force base, which sent out a group of specialists. The grenade was moved to a safe place near Walnut Hills golf course after a decision was made not to drive it through town to another location to detonate it.
C4 was buried with the grenade, and the blast was likely heard along the Route Y corridor between Country Club Estates and Hunter’s Ridge.
The event took about three hours from start to finish.
Anders said, “Everyone is safe and uninjured.”
