A Marshall woman allegedly was scammed out of thousands of dollars recently.

According to a Marshall Police report, on Thursday, December 23, a lawyer contacted the department and advised her client was scammed.

The alleged victim advised at approximately 9 p.m. on November 2, she began talking to a subject she believed to be Bradley Rockwell on Google Chat. The woman said Rockwell advised her he was in the Army in Israel, and he had a 5-year-old son, whose mother had just died of COVID. The woman also said Rockwell advised her he was attempting to get home to his son, was attempting to get a loan, but he needed her to deposit a check first.

The woman said Rockwell gave her his birthday and his Social Security Number. The woman also said she received a check from Rockwell, who advised her to deposit the check at an ATM rather than go into a bank. The woman said she provided Rockwell with $16,025.80 through various forms of payment (Apple Gift Cards, Cash App, and Voyager).

The alleged victim provided a voluntary written statement and advised she is willing to assist in prosecution.
