A 25-year old St. Louis man who was facing a felony charge after displaying a firearm while driving on I-70 on Memorial Day in Saline County changed his plea in court on Wednesday, December 22.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, a trooper was advised that the driver of a vehicle traveling eastbound on I-70 had displayed a semiautomatic pistol out of the driver’s-side window at the reporting party. The trooper initiated a traffic stop at the 93 mile marker.
When the trooper approached the vehicle, he observed the reported pistol inside the vehicle. Keion Lavon Butler admitted to the trooper that he had, in fact, been involved in a “road rage” incident after he said the driver of another vehicle attempted to run him off the roadway. Butler told the trooper that he did hold the firearm up in the air.
Court documents say Butler changed his plea from not guilty to guilty to a felony for unlawful use of a weapon- exhibiting.
As part of a plea deal, the judge suspended the sentence and placed Butler on five years of supervised probation.
