A Whiteman Air Force Base Airman is continuing a family legacy.
According to a press release, Captain Kyle Cassady, a B-2 Spirit Instructor Pilot, is continuing his family’s legacy at the Rose Bowl Game, but his contribution to the game will be from the sky instead of the field.
Captain Cassady’s grandfather Howard “Hopalong” Cassady played for The Ohio State University and not only won the Rose Bowl in 1955, but won the Heisman Trophy as well. Now, 67 years later, Captain Cassady will be executing the B-2 flyover at the Rose Bowl as The Ohio State Buckeyes play the University of Utah Utes.
Captain Cassady grew up just minutes from The Ohio State University campus before attending and graduating from the U.S. Air Force Academy in 2014.
The B-2 is America’s premier strategic stealth bomber and one of the world’s most advanced aircraft. It is operated by the 509th and 131st Bomb Wings at Whiteman Air Force Base in Knob Noster.
The flyover will be shortly before the kickoff of the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California, at 4 p.m. on Saturday, January 1.
