bud-castle

Harold Thomas “Bud” Castle, 94, of Marshall, MO, died Thursday, January 6, 2022, at his home.

Born May 30, 1927, in Saline County, he was the son of the late Thomas Linn Castle and Alberta Pittman Castle. Bud attended Malta Bend High school and then served in the United States Army from 1952 to 1954 during the Korean War and was a founding member of American Legion Post 558 in Malta Bend. On August 16, 1958, he married Deleta “Dee” Newell who survives of the home.

Bud lived in Saline County his entire life where he was a lifelong farmer with his brother, Fred C. Castle, and member of St. Peter Catholic Church. Soon after their marriage, their lives soon revolved around the family farm and their six children – Tommy, Laura, Lisa, Timmy, Jennifer and Julie. Life was never dull on the Castle farms. Throughout his life, he served and was active on education, banking and agricultural boards. He enjoyed staying active and keeping his mind sharp.

Bud was known for his love of the farm, his family and all things sweet. If you could not find Bud at the farm, you most likely could find him at the local McDonalds drinking coffee and finding out the latest town happenings. Bud found the greatest joy spending time and spoiling his grandkids and great grandkids.

He will be dearly missed by his family. In addition to his wife of 63 years, Dee; he is survived by five children: Tommy Castle (Misty) of Malta Bend, Laura Nichols (Jeff) of Bonita Springs, FL, Lisa Officer (Dave) of Springfield, Jennifer Dunn (Brent) of Nixa, and Julie Downs (Lenny) of Jasper, AR; a daughter-in-law, Erika Baker (Steve) of Ft. Wayne, IN; 11 grandchildren; five great grandchildren; two sisters, Bernadette Cleary and Anne Boedeker, both of the Kansas City area; family friend and caregiver, Kat VanBuren of Marshall; as well as nieces, nephews, and other extended family.

Bud was preceded in death by his parents, one son, Tim Castle; a granddaughter, Amanda Castle; one sister, Mary Kathryn Gauldin; and one brother, Fred Castle.
